2025 Milestone: Over Half of Internet’s New Articles Authored by AI

Łukasz Grochal

Recent research shows that in 2025, AI-generated articles account for just over half of all new content online. This sharp increase began after the launch of advanced AI models like ChatGPT in late 2022, which accelerated the shift from human to machine-written material. Although fears surrounded the rise in AI content, the trend seems to have stabilized, with human and AI-generated articles now locked in a close race for dominance.

Search engines are effective at filtering low-quality machine-generated texts, allowing only a small portion (about 14%) to appear in prominent search results. Interestingly, even AI systems tend to cite more human-written content.

It appears that readers still prefer the usefulness and creativity found in human-authored articles, despite the rapid growth and efficiency of AI-driven writing.
