Echoes of Munch: A Personal Scream Rendered in ComfyUI

Łukasz Grochal

My reinterpretation of Edvard Munch’s The Scream explores how classic expressionist anxiety translates into a fully digital, locally generated image. The iconic bridge, swirling sky and vibrating colors are reconstructed using only local models and ComfyUI, with Flux.2-dev as the core engine, to stay as close as possible to a hand-painted atmosphere rather than photorealism.

In some iterations the original faceless figure is replaced with my own head, turning Munch’s universal symbol of fear into a personal self-portrait of tension between human emotion and machine-generated form. The project balances respect for the original composition with subtle deviations in texture, light and facial structure, emphasizing that this is an homage and reinterpretation, not a direct copy of the historical painting.
