OpenAI’s Sora App Launches on Android in Select Countries

Łukasz Grochal

OpenAI’s Sora app, initially launched on iOS, is now officially available for Android users in select regions including the US, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Sora enables users to generate short videos based on text prompts and offers a TikTok-like feed featuring only AI-generated clips.

The standout “Cameo” feature lets users insert themselves or friends into generated videos, raising new discussions about copyright and image protection. While Sora reached high download ranks rapidly, its availability remains limited outside supported regions, such as Europe.

Users seeking to try Sora in unsupported countries can resort to using a VPN or manually installing the APK, with corresponding security risks. OpenAI plans to expand access further in the future.
