Bazzite Tests Show AMD Dominates Nvidia in Linux Gaming

Author: Łukasz Grochal

Gamers Nexus recently benchmarked high-end GPUs on Bazzite, a Linux distro tuned for gaming. The tests show solid frame rates across modern titles, but Nvidia cards suffer inconsistent performance compared to AMD rivals. AMD GPUs like the RX 9070 XT often deliver steadier results despite lower averages in some cases.

Key stats highlight the gaps. In Black Myth: Wukong at 1080p, RTX 5090 hit 114.8 fps average but had poor frame pacing with spikes to 18-20ms intervals, while RX 9070 XT managed 105.2 fps with smooth delivery. Starfield at 4K saw RX 9070 XT top charts at around 60 fps, edging RTX 5090 which tied it closely but lagged in lower resolutions due to driver quirks. Dragon's Dogma 2 at 1440p put RTX 5090 at 154 fps, RX 9070 XT matching RTX 5080 levels near 134 fps. Overall, AMD pulled ahead in consistency, especially rasterization, while Nvidia struggled in titles like Starfield and Baldur's Gate 3 native Linux builds.

Bazzite stands out as a user-friendly, immutable Fedora-based OS built for Steam Deck-like gaming on desktops and handhelds. It ships with pre-installed drivers, Proton for Windows game translation,
