Windrose lets you play as a captain out for revenge against Blackbeard in an alternate Age of Piracy. You sail solo or with up to four friends across procedurally generated islands packed with over 90 handcrafted spots like dungeons, temples, and shipwrecks. Expect seamless shifts from land to sea, where you build bases, farm, fish, craft gear, trade, and hire NPC crew members.
Combat feels souls-lite, with swords, muskets, parries, and dodges against sailors, monsters, and bosses. Naval fights let your crew share ship weapons before boarding for close quarters. Early access brings three biomes on about 30 islands, three ships, faction quests, reputation systems, and a 50-70 hour story.
The demo drew over 850,000 players during Steam Next Fest, topping charts with very positive reviews around 94% and peaks of 22,000 concurrent users. It now sits at 1.5 million Steam wishlists, ranking high like 8th most-wishlisted.
Launch is April 14 on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Stove for $30, staying in early access 1.5-2.5 years. Plans include 50% more content: new biomes, enemies, ships, and mechanics based on player feedback via Discord and Steam.
Players like the pirate vibe, exploration, and co-op ship battles, though some note survival tropes feel familiar. It stands out with polished action, boisterous NPCs, and high-seas focus over pure crafting grind.
