The new 15 minute gameplay video for Crimson Desert focuses on the protagonist Kliff and the vast continent of Pywel, presented as a seamless open world filled with wilderness, cities, ruins and distinct regions. The story kicks off after a fragile peace collapses, pushing Kliff to reunite his faction, the Greymanes, and deal with a larger threat tied to mysterious Abyss fragments crashing into the world. The footage highlights exploration on horseback, climbing, gliding and more exotic traversal like a grappling hook, a missile firing mech and even a dragon mount, all backed by highly detailed visuals and dense environmental detail.
Combat shows fast paced melee, ranged and magical attacks against soldiers, beasts and machines, with a focus on flashy moves and cinematic finishers. At the same time, some viewers and commentators feel the previews look almost too polished, especially given Pearl Abyss’ history with Black Desert, which looked amazing in marketing but did not fully match everyone’s expectations in long term play. The skepticism mostly circles around questions of optimization, controls, balance and quest quality rather than whether the showcased gameplay is “real”. For now, the game sits in a strange spot between genuine excitement and cautious doubt ahead of its March 19 release.
