DLSS 4.5 Dynamic Multi Frame Generation is scheduled to roll out on March 31, initially for GeForce RTX 50 series cards via the Nvidia app beta, alongside a new 6X Multi Frame Generation mode that can add up to five AI generated frames to each traditionally rendered one. The tech is designed to dynamically adjust how many frames are generated on the fly to maintain a target frame rate or match monitor refresh, which should help smooth out dips in demanding scenes while avoiding unnecessary overhead in lighter ones.
Nvidia claims that on RTX 50 GPUs, moving from 4X to 6X Multi Frame Generation can raise 4K frame rates in path traced games by up to 35 percent, with DLSS 4.5’s updated Super Resolution model further improving image quality, especially at Performance and Ultra Performance settings. For earlier RTX generations, DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution is already available through the Nvidia app, but the heavier model can cost more performance on RTX 20 and 30 cards because they lack FP8 acceleration, so some players may prefer to stick with the older DLSS 4 model there.
Overall, the biggest gains will go to RTX 50 owners chasing very high refresh 4K gaming with ray tracing, while others get a more incremental image quality upgrade and extra configuration options rather than a dramatic speed boost.
