Permafrost Turns A Frozen Earth Into A Survival Sandbox

Author: Łukasz Grochal

Permafrost is an upcoming open world survival game set in a frozen post apocalyptic Earth, developed by SpaceRocket Games and published by Toplitz Productions for PC. It focuses on harsh environmental survival, scavenging and base building in a devastated urban landscape buried under permanent ice. Players explore abandoned cities, forests and underground areas, searching for resources, restoring lost technology and interacting with other survivors, raiders and factions.

The game supports solo play and online co-op for up to four players, with a canine companion assisting in exploration and threat detection. Core mechanics include managing warmth and energy, gathering scarce materials like wood and batteries, crafting tools and weapons, hunting wildlife and constructing shelters or larger bases to withstand blizzards and long term cold. Permafrost combines story driven quests with sandbox style survival, encouraging players to follow a main narrative while freely rebuilding in the frozen ruins.

The title aims to differentiate itself through its focus on a frozen urban environment, technology upcycling and a blend of cooperative and competitive encounters with human NPCs in the white wasteland. Early access on PC is planned, allowing the game to expand with new biomes, quests and technical improvements before a full release.
