Steam Beta Enables Full Proton Support

Łukasz Grochal

Valve's latest Steam Beta update has introduced full Proton support for Linux, eliminating the need for manual compatibility tweaks. This long-awaited feature allows gamers to simply click "Play" on Windows titles, with Steam automatically handling Proton configuration in the background.

The update streamlines the Linux gaming experience, reducing friction for newcomers while maintaining advanced customization for power users. Proton, Valve's Wine-based compatibility layer, now integrates seamlessly with Steam's library, supporting thousands of Windows games on Linux.

This move reinforces Valve's commitment to Linux gaming, following years of Proton improvements and the success of the Steam Deck. With native-like simplicity, Linux could finally become a mainstream alternative for PC gamers.
