Subnautica 2: Co-Op, New World & 2026 Early Access

Łukasz Grochal

Subnautica 2 builds on its predecessors by introducing co-op multiplayer for up to four players, a first for the series, alongside the classic single-player survival experience. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, the game is set on a completely new alien ocean world with richer biomes, more creatures, new vehicles, and advanced base-building mechanics.

Innovative features like modifying your DNA for adaptation expand beyond the original’s crafting and exploration focus. Originally slated for 2025, the Early Access launch has been delayed to 2026 to allow for more polish and content in response to internal playtest feedback and leadership changes. Despite the delay, the developers reaffirm that there will be no microtransactions, subscriptions, or loot boxes, maintaining a player-first approach.
