Surviving Carcosa in Saros, Housemarque’s next hit

Author: Łukasz Grochal

Saros is a story driven sci fi action game from Housemarque, the studio behind Returnal, published by Sony for PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro. You play as Arjun Devraj, a Soltari Enforcer investigating a lost off world colony on the shape shifting planet Carcosa, which lies under a permanent, ominous eclipse. The game blends fast paced third person shooting with roguelike structure: each death advances the eclipse, corrupting environments, mutating enemies and subtly changing level layouts. Between runs you return to the Passage hub, where you invest resources into permanent armor and weapon upgrades, tweak difficulty modifiers and slowly build a stronger loadout for the next attempt.

Visually Saros really leans into Housemarque’s flair for dense particle effects, surreal enemy design and dramatic lighting, aiming for a very polished, cinematic presentation on Sony’s current hardware. The narrative focuses on Arjun’s search for answers and the fate of the colony, with a mysterious tone rather than straightforward heroics. Saros is currently set to launch on April 30, 2026 exclusively on PS5, with a Digital Deluxe Edition that offers 48 hour early access and cosmetic bonuses for dedicated players.
