Why Fate of the Old Republic Excites KOTOR Fans

Łukasz Grochal

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is a new single‑player, story‑driven action RPG set in a galaxy recovering at the end of the Old Republic era, unveiled at The Game Awards 2025 with a brief cinematic teaser. The project is led by Arcanaut Studios and Casey Hudson, the director of the original Knights of the Old Republic, and is framed as a spiritual successor that focuses on player choice, character‑driven storytelling and an immersive Star Wars atmosphere rather than being a direct remake. The teaser sticks to mood and world‑building rather than gameplay, and so far there are no confirmed combat systems, party details or platforms beyond a general “PC and consoles” target.

Developers describe the title as early in production, with new characters and an all‑new narrative, and there is currently no official release date or even a release window, suggesting a launch still years away.
