Zero Parades: For Dead Spies is a narrative-driven espionage RPG developed by ZA/UM, set for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (with potential later port to Switch).
You play as Hershel Wilk (alias “CASCADE”), a former elite operant who vanished after a failed mission five years ago and is now recalled to unravel a mysterious assignment. The game emphasizes narrative tension, surrealism and the inevitability of failure: even when skill checks fail, the story continues “forward.”
The gameplay introduces Dramatic Encounters, time-paused decision sequences resolved via dice rolls influenced by attributes, and an “Exert” mechanism that lets players push for better outcomes at some cost. Also, a new Conditioning system replaces the Thought Cabinet: you can reinforce “Thoughts” but must balance tradeoffs.
Visually and structurally it evokes Disco Elysium: isometric perspective, dialogue layout, system of skill checks. However, many of the original creative leads of Disco Elysium have departed ZA/UM, stirring debate over whether the new title can recapture the original’s spirit.
Reception to the gameplay preview was mixed: while fans applaud the ambition and aesthetic continuity, concerns linger over narrative quality and the studio’s internal changes.
