Affinity, which was formerly a paid suite of creative apps, is now available as a single, completely free platform following its acquisition by Canva. The relaunch merges Affinity Photo, Designer, and Publisher into one integrated application for Windows and Mac. Users gain access to professional grade tools for photo editing, vector illustration, and layout creation without subscription fees or hidden costs. The transition eliminates separate downloads and purchases, providing a unified file format that supports seamless editing and compatibility with standard formats like PSD and AI.
Canva promotes the ‘free forever’ aspect, targeting designers frustrated by expensive subscriptions and fragmented workflows. AI features are also being incorporated, but basic functionality remains accessible to all at no charge, with future updates included. Existing stand-alone Affinity apps will remain functional, giving current users choice over platform migration.
This shift challenges industry models led by Adobe, promising greater access and simplicity for creative professionals, while the new system’s universal file format and Canva integration enhance usability.
