Fiskumvannet and Eikeren
Fiskumvannet is a shallow, nutrient-rich lake located in Øvre Eiker, Norway. It connects to the larger lake Eikeren via a narrow strait known as "Sundet." Fiskumvannet is surrounded by wetlands and is part of a protected nature reserve due to its rich biodiversity. It’s an important site for birdlife, with over 240 species observed, and features a popular birdwatching tower. The area also offers recreational opportunities like fishing, swimming, and hiking. A historic church from medieval times is located nearby, adding cultural value to the region.
Eikeren, also known as Eikern, is a long and deep freshwater lake that stretches almost 20 kilometers and reaches depths of up to 158 meters. It is a clean and scenic body of water, serving as a drinking water source and a favorite spot for fishing, boating, and summer cruises. The lake supports various fish species such as trout, perch, and Arctic char, and is lined with beaches, forested slopes, and summer cabins.
Water from Eikeren flows through Fiskumvannet and continues along the Vestfosselva River to Hokksund, eventually joining the Drammenselva. The entire water system plays a key role in local ecology, recreation, and hydropower production.
