Massive Quake Brutalist Jam III pushes the engine hard

Łukasz Grochal

Quake Brutalist Jam III is a huge community-driven conversion that reimagines classic Quake around a harsh brutalist aesthetic and upgraded combat sandbox. It packs an unprecedented 77 maps that lean into towering concrete structures, dense shadows and oppressive vistas, deliberately pushing the old engine’s limits in terms of scale, geometry detail and lighting tricks. Alongside the level pack you get a completely new arsenal, additional monsters, fresh powerups and a full visual overhaul of Quake’s existing enemy roster, weapons and effects, so it feels closer to a quasi-expansion than a simple map jam. The mod is built for the Ironwail source port (version 0.8.1 or newer) and is also offered as a standalone package with LibreQuake data, meaning you can either plug it into a regular Quake install or just unpack and run it without owning the original game.

Windows and Linux users can both use Ironwail, with some extra folder and filename care needed on Linux, especially for the game’s pak files.
