Mirador de Carabiners

Author: Łukasz Grochal

Mirador de Carabiners is a cliffside viewpoint in Penyal d’Ifac Natural Park above Calpe on Spain’s Costa Blanca, reached via the main Peñón de Ifach hiking route. The path climbs a steep, paved section, then passes through a short, unlit tunnel with chains before turning into a rough, rocky trail with occasional fixed chains and steps. From a fork beyond the tunnel you can choose the summit or branch out to Mirador de Carabiners, where the rock falls almost vertically into the Mediterranean and you get wide views of Calpe’s harbor, skyline and the surrounding limestone cliffs.

The outing is usually described as moderate overall, but the post‑tunnel part is exposed, slippery and better suited to sure‑footed hikers with proper shoes, especially if you are going with children or anyone with a fear of heights. Besides the scenery, the area is known for its protected coastal ecosystem, with limestone flora and seabirds nesting on the rock.
