No Chosen One: Outward 2’s Tough New Direction

Łukasz Grochal

In the recent announcement covered by PC Gamer, Outward 2 takes a different path for RPGs by prioritizing immersion and survival over typical power fantasies. Instead of playing a hero destined for greatness, players must manage everyday threats - cold, hunger, infections - as well as monsters. The new gameplay trailer emphasizes preparation: building camps, leveraging natural shelters, and managing resources. Combat is more dynamic, with enemies acting tactically rather than turn-based, and cooperation in two-player split-screen is highlighted.

In one trailer moment, two players use traps, magical sigils, and coordinated attacks to bring down a deer-like beast. Outward 2 is set for summer 2026, and interested players can already wishlist it or sign up for a playtest.
