AMD targets Zen 7 on AM5 instead of new socket

Łukasz Grochal

Rumors point to a longer life for AMD’s AM5 platform. Several reports say AMD is considering keeping Zen 7 on AM5, not moving to a new socket, which would give buyers an upgrade path from today’s Zen 4 and Zen 5 through Zen 6 and even Zen 7 on existing boards. That lines up with AMD’s pledge to support AM5 through 2027+, while leaks place Zen 6 around 2026 to 2027.

AM6 is expected later with next-gen I/O like DDR6 and PCIe 6, so plans could still change. For now the takeaway is simple: users may get more years out of current motherboards and DDR5 kits.
