Canis Unveiled: PS6 Handheld Receives Leak Ahead of 2027

Łukasz Grochal

New leaks shed light on Sony’s in-development PlayStation 6 handheld, codenamed Canis, suggesting a powerful device poised for late 2027 release. Leaked specs point to a custom AMD APU built on TSMC’s 3 nm process, featuring a six-core CPU four Zen 6c cores for gaming and two low-power cores handling the operating system. Memory architecture includes a 192-bit LPDDR5X-8533 controller, with support for up to 48 GB RAM, though real-world configurations may hover around 24-36 GB to cater to next-gen gaming demands.

Graphics duties fall to a 16-CU RDNA 5 GPU, clocked at 1.2 GHz when handheld, rising to 1.65 GHz in docked mode, which unlocks up to 75 percent of PS5’s rasterisation performance. Ray-tracing capabilities could exceed base PS5 by 2.6x, delivering impressively smooth visuals even at reduced power. Canis carries features like backward compatibility with PS4 and PS5 titles, support for MicroSD and M.2 SSD storage, haptic feedback, dual microphones, a touchscreen, and video-out via USB-C.

Production estimates suggest a price range between $399 and $499. While these specs are substantial, all remain unofficial pending an official announcement.
